November 2004
Dear StudioLine User, Get wowed by the biggest update to StudioLine yet! Jam-packed
with new features, the release candidate of StudioLine Photo 2.5 is now ready
for download. It will make a great holiday gift for relatives and friends. |
|
||
|
The image toolbox, descriptor form, folders, keywords and many
new features are tucked away neatly in Windows® XP style
drawers on the left side of the new StudioLine screen. This leaves the rest
of your workspace to view and work in your album pages. |
|
||
|
Dual-Screen Support While the new tool drawer helps to clean up a busy workspace,
serious photographers often have two monitors connected to their workstation.
With StudioLine 2.5, you can undock panels from the tool drawer and
move them to any location. Now you can search, edit, describe, rate and tag
images on one screen, while reserving the other screen entirely for
high-resolution views of your images. |
|||
|
Image
Archive Views The album view with subfolders is an easy way
to effectively manage your images. In addition, StudioLine 2.5 will
automatically organize your images in a timeline. Now you can simply drill
down to the year, month and day to locate past holiday photos. Other views display images based on your
keywords, ratings or any number of search criteria. |
|
||
|
Live-Histogram For in-depth analysis of your photos, StudioLine 2.5 can graph
grayscales, colors, hue, saturation and brightness, in either linear or
logarithmic scale – 18 different views in all. Exclusive to StudioLine: View the histogram "live",
while optimizing your images. This way you can immediately verify the effects
of any image tools and settings. Try that with other cheap (or not so cheap)
imitations! |
|
||
|
Image Archive Filter Trying to find images that match multiple criteria was once a
challenge. Fortunately, StudioLine 2.5 will guide you through the process
step-by-step. First, pick from a list of IPTC, Exif or custom tags. Next,
choose user-friendly comparison operators, such as "starts with",
"contains" or "equal". Finally, enter a search value or
use existing values from the image archive. After checking the number of hits, you can always include more
pictures or further restrict your search. (Programmers call this
"and" / "or" conditions.) Once satisfied, StudioLine will display matching images in a
filtered tree view of albums and sub-folders. |
|
||
|
Click & Tag Consistent image descriptions will drastically improve your chances
to successfully find pictures later. In StudioLine 2.5, you're able to
maintain personalized, multi-level keyword lists. Categorizing images is just a simple mouse click. Append
keywords to IPTC variables, assign them to any of your custom tags, rate
pictures on a scale from 1 to 5 or flag them for use in later tasks. |
|
||
|
Calendars, Cards, CD
Covers This holiday season turn your favorite photo into a personalized
greeting card. Give your loved ones a 2005 calendar full of family pictures.
StudioLine 2.5 comes with ready-made print templates. You can also print CD indexes, complete with front and back
covers. And Much More… Hopefully, we've peaked your interest.
There are many more new functions and enhancements to discover. |

Daily Tip #1 – Capturing a Screen Shot
A picture is worth a thousand words. How often do you wish
others could just take a look at your screen – instead of having to
write lengthy descriptions? With StudioLine, you already have all you need! · Locate the
"Print Screen" button on your keyboard. On some computers, it may
be labeled "PrtScn". · Once you're ready to
capture your current screen contents, press the Print Screen button. (If you
have a laptop computer or if the "PrtScn" button is labeled in a
different color, consult your computer manual. You may need to hold down the
Shift key or a special "Function" key.) · Start StudioLine Photo and open any image archive folder. · Select
"Paste" from the "Edit" menu, or use the
"Ctrl+V" keyboard combination. A thumbnail of your screenshot should now appear in your
StudioLine workspace. You can now email, print or export the screenshot like
any other picture, or take additional screenshots and create a slide show to
demonstrate the flow of several screens.
Note: If you want to capture only the current application, not the entire screen, then hold the "Alt" key while pressing the Print Screen button. |

|
Daily Tip #2 – Clearing Descriptors in Multiple Images
With StudioLine, it's very easy to copy groups of descriptors to a large number of images. If necessary, it's just as easy to clear values from descriptors.
· In the image archive, click a description below an image to open the "Descriptors" panel. · Locate the descriptor
that you need to clear. · Drag the
"Copy" button for the descriptor to the recycle bin. You can also
click the right mouse button to on the "Copy" button, then choose
"Reset" from the context menu.
· Press and hold the Ctrl key, while you select any other images for which the same descriptor should be reset. · Drag the
"Copy" button for the empty descriptor and drop it on one of the
selected images.

Daily Tip #3 – Launching Images in Other Applications
Sometimes you may want to use a freehand tool or bitmap editor
to artistically enhance individual photos. Whatever the reason, you can
easily launch third party applications and open pictures directly from the
image archive. · In the image archive, right-click the image that you like to edit using a third party application. · From the context menu
choose either "Image with image tools applied" or
"Original". Then choose "Open Copy with". · If the program you
are looking for already appears in the list of external applications, select
it. Otherwise you should click "Choose Program…" to choose
from a list of programs or click "Edit Program Shortcuts" to define
the location of your third party application.
If you frequently launch the same third party application, then you can just use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+O" to open a copy of the current image with the first external program on the list, or "Ctrl+Shift+O" if you need to choose a different program. |
