Manual Geotagging

System Requirements

Users of StudioLine Photo Basic can use the no charge “StudioLine Geotagging” web service to manually associate images with the location where they were taken. Data is exchanged between StudioLine Photo Basic and StudioLine Geotagging by means of KML files, the native file format of Google™ Earth.

The no-charge StudioLine Geotagging web service implements the Google Maps API, which is subject to special usage terms. A link to the current usage terms can be found in the lower right of every Google map. By using StudioLine Geotagging and Google™ maps, you accept the special usage terms.

The “Studioline Geotagging” web service requires Internet Explorer, Version 7 or better.

You must grant Internet Explorer permission to let the web service access local files on your computer. In Internet Explorer, choose “Internet Options” from the “Extra” menu and switch to the “Security” tab.

Add the website “http://Geo.StudioLine.net” to the list of trusted sites. The checkbox "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" must not be checked.

Technical Requirements

Start Internet Explorer and open the site "Geo.StudioLine.net". To load your KML file and thumbnails, choose the option “Local File”, click the “Browse” button and navigate to the folder with the exported  KML file and select it.

Clicking the “Add” button will load the images referenced in the KML file and add them to the thumbnail pane on the left. Images that already have geographical coordinates will be marked at their respective locations on the map.

You can use the controls in the upper left corner of the map to scroll or zoom the map display, or move the map by clicking and dragging the left mouse button. To jump to a particular location, use the field “Enter a location or address” near the top of the map and click the “Search” button.

To add location data to an image or to change existing data, select the image in the thumbnail pane and click the “Use Crosshair” checkbox on the input form. A crosshair will appear in the center of the map. Move the map until the location where the photo was taken is situated directly in the crosshair. Click the “Update” button to apply the coordinates to the selected image.
